    Hypermotard 6.4 gallon Tank
    Hi,

Wow, it has been too long since we have stopped by to tell you about our newest product, the 6.4 gallon Hypermotard gas tank! We have been selling them for over 6 months now and have had great success. It is looking like our tank will also fit the Hyper 796, but we will have to install it before we can confirm this. Here is a link to the photos of it: www.ca-cycleworks.com/gallery/

If you would like to pick up a tank, you can either go to your local dealer or go to our website:www.ca-cycleworks.com/shop/catalog/ducati/fuel.html. If your dealer doesn't have one on the shelf, tell them to give us a call and we will set them up.

Our next fuel tank will be for the Carbed Monsters. The fuel injected version will not be ready until Winter 2010.

    Back to work...
We're open and getting boxes going, so it's ok to place your orders. UPS and USPS are both servicing our location. I'm trying to keep my google map updated, as a lot of folks are using it for information. (174000+ views)

The fires are raging, but oddly, it seems everyone is a touch relaxed as the fire seems to be of predictable scope. The sky is smoky and some ashes are falling here at the shop, only a mile from Qualcomm Stadium.

    Thanks, Chris

"Fire map blog" on google maps
The map in the below post is taken from my initial tracking of the San Diego Witch Creek and Harris fires. Since I have been updating it, my google map for the Witch Creek and Harris fires in San Diego has gotten some 97000 views in only 24 hours. Wow! I hope it's helping folks out. Looks like I'm staying with friends in the town of Coronado, just across the San Diego Bay from the city itself. I hope I'm ok there ... and I hope the shop stays ok, too. The fires are pretty "mad" ... read some of the latest postings to that map. :(

    San Diego Closed ...
We're closed. Two fires of 8000 and 14000 acres have grown to 8+ fires!! Freeways are closed, massive evacuations, authorities urging everyone to stay in their homes. Expect we will not answer phones, ship packages, or make credit card transactions until Wednesday.

Below is something of a status map as of 0700 on Monday 22 October 2007

UPDATE: 6:30 pm : As the fire headed south so did the evacuation areas. When the evacuations moved down to only 2 exits away from us, we went ahead and left our home in Mira Mesa area to the shop. We'll sleep further south tonight. It may be overly conservative, but who wants to be forced by rapid moving fires driven by 40~70 mph winds?

    San Diego fires.
    Hey Everyone,

We haven't yet been directly affected by San Diego's Witch Fire, however, we'll update with the latest news if we need to temporarily close.

The San Diego "Witch" fire is too reminiscent of 2003's deadly "Cedar" fire, only the "Santa Ana" winds are much worse this year than in 2003!! The Cedar fire covered 20 miles in only a few hours powered by strong Santa Ana winds, traveling from the same area as the "Witch" fire and across the route CCW employees travel to work! Click for a map of that fire: http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/fires/map/031106firemap.html

The oddity of the "Witch" fire is how the "Santa Ana" winds are not behaving like normal; instead of the wind easing or dying during the night, over Sunday night, they got stronger.

While typing this up, more fires started. San Diego is up to seven separate wild fires as of 4am.

3:30am PDT listing of the San Diego area fires (location, "name", approx acres:
Ramona "Witch" 8000 as of 10pm Sunday. ( Google community maps of Witch fire )
San Pasqual - started by downed power lines at 1am Monday and is "small".
Descanso - Tecate "Harris" 14,000 as of 10pm Sunday. ( Google community maps of Harris fire )
Fallbrook - is supposed to be small.
San Marcos "Coronado Hills" started near 2am at 20 acres and is now over 100.

Weather conditions are worsening: will be more dry with stronger winds Monday and not easing until Tuesday.

My contributions to the San Diego Fire Maps on google are on my profile page

    In house work ...
Thursday, Oct 11, we're focusing on in-house work. We've got to process a batch of Dyna coils and get caught up with e-mail and other projects. Apologies if you called and didn't get through. We can't even hear the phone ring when running the coils kits, let alone try to talk on the phones! :)

Information about our Dyna Coils Kits:

California Cycleworks, Inc is the only place to buy a ready to install, bolt on coils kit for the carbureted Ducati Monsters and Supersports (SS). There are no mods made to your bike, so it remains all stock. These kits have been one of our most popular sellers for over 5 years! They make a noticeable improvement over the small and weak OEM coils supplied with these models, especially at lower rpm!

We have an info page at Ducatitech.com which reviews the Dyna Coils Kit. The kit includes a 10 page instruction pack with generous pictures to ensure a simple installation.

    Applicable models:
    Supersport 900: 1991~1998  all models 900SS, 900SS/SL Superlight, 900SS/SP, 900SS/CR, 900SS/FE
Supersport 750: all years up to / including 1998
    Supersport 600: all years
    Monster 900 : 1994~1999
Monster 750 : all years up to / including 2001. (only the 2001 model is EFI, which this kit is not for)
    Monster 600: all years

Models this kits is not intended for:
Any fuel injected Monster, SS, etc. efi Monsters are 2000+ M900 and 2002+ ALL Monsters. All Supersports 1999 and up. This is not to say the dyna coils won't work on these models (they may, they may not, we haven't tried), but instead, it is obvious that the coils have no easy fitment to these bikes, <b>especially not on Monsters!</b> There have been a couple resourceful SSie owners who have replaced the 916-type coils with Dyna coils. You do not need the conversion (and added expense) of our kit! Instead you get to do like many many mechanics who have installed Dyna coils to Japanese bikes for years: make it work. You'll need to fab up your own mounting bracket. The SSie does not require the coils' internal core to be shortened, as we have to on our kits for carby Ducatis.

    SSL Certificate Warning Fixed
Apologies for the inconvenience: we allowed our "SSL Security Certificate" to lapse. It expired this week and it is now paid up again.

The certificate issued by the independent authority who validates our domain had just expired. While the encryption is the same, paying independent authorities for the certificate helps authenticate we are who we say we are. In other words, there never was a problem with security of information and everything is up to date and should be fine now without any warnings in your web browser.

Through all of this, we learned about and are investigating upgrading our site to the new EV (Extended Validation) standard. For simplicity sake, we are using the popular company "godaddy.com" for our internet information listings and SSL. We formerly used Network Solutions but switched because the web industry sees NetSol as difficult to deal with.

For more information about Extended Validation, please visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extended_Validation_Certificate and also http://www.hanselman.com/blog/HighAssuranceOrLdquoExtendedValidationrdquoEVSSLCertificates.aspx

California Cycleworks, Inc will have no problems with the vetting process to get a "High assurance" or an EV certification. The steps required will take some time to complete for the EV, but won't be as time consuming for the high assurance cert.

    Thanks,
Chris and the Ca Cycleworks team.

New Vendor added! Look for Leo-Vince exhaust systems!
We have just updated our Ducati Exhaust Systems page to include our newest vendor, Leo Vince. Leo Vince makes full exhaust systems for Ducati 1098, 999R, 999, and 749R Superbikes. Leo Vince makes oval slip-on mufflers with Titanium, Carbon, and Aluminum outer skin for Ducati's popular Monster family: Monster S2R1000, S4R, S2R800, M1000ie, M900ie, M900, M800ie, M750ie, M750, M695, M620ie, and M600.

Leo Vince also offers aluminum slipon offerings for Ducati's Multistrada MTS1100, MTS1000 as well as the Sport Touring ST3. The MTS mufflers have an attractive cone-shaped end cap that works well with the tail of the bike.

Many pics are in our catalog, too. These items feature free ground shipping within the US. They may ship from our facility or via fulfillment. As always, should an item you want is backordered, our standard policy is that your credit card is not billed or processed until product is actually shipping to you! We respect your money and feel this is how the motorcycle industry should work. We hold your order open so that your place in the queue is reserved -- and our tracking system ensures that you are not forgotten.

    Thanks!
    Chris

    Being behind
Hi everyone - Candice has a few days off and we miss her. If response to your e-mail or message takes a little longer, sorry about that! We're hard at work getting orders processed and staying on top of things.

    Technology update
We are working on the transition from Microsoft Windows operating systems (mostly XP) to all Linux OSs (mostly ubuntu). To better serve you, we are making this move away from closed-source, proprietary programs and making the move to open source solutions which enable us greater flexibility.

    Some great info:
Free Office-Suite of programs for windows, linux, etc: OpenOffice.org
    Other FREE open source programs for windows: site1 - site2 - site3 - site4 - site5
Open source graphics programs for linux. And more. (likely google can tell you about many!)
Ubuntu and Kubuntu are two of many linux operating system distributions.

Soooooo... many apologies for being a little behind with replying to e-mails... we've been quite busy here!

    Season for upgrades!!
And for the computers, too! While everyone has been hitting the upgrade season for their bikes, at the same time, a couple of the software programs we use to get your shipments out got updated too! UNfortunately, they haven't been playing well together, causing us some lost sleep. No worries, we see the light at the end of the tunnel -- and it is not a train!

    ....

For the geeks out there (like us), we've been casually researching an ERP solution. Today set that plan on the fast track. We're looking for a completely windows-free OS environment... It was going to be hoped to happen with a "couple years" but today's computer misbehavior changed all that! :)

    new products!
We are ecstatic to announce our OEM replacement fuel pumps for the latest generation of Ducati motorcycles! All models 2001 and newer with a "fuel pump flange plate" utilize this pump we are now selling. Instead of having to spend $600 to $800 to replace the entire assembly, California Cycleworks can sell you a new pump for $150. Our pumps are manufactured to our exacting specifications by an ISO certified factory. Dealer inquiries welcome.

    Applicable models:
    Ducati MH900e "mike hailwood" evoluzione : 2001-2002

    ------

In other news, we are able to provide chain adjuster tools to the S2R800, S2R1000, S4Rs, and 2007+ S4R (testa) models. We are stocking new toolbags intended for the 996, which includes a good array of tools, including the eccentric spanner.

Both of these exciting new products are not yet in our catalog but are in the queue.

    Staintune price increase
We got notification that Staintune pricing has gone up approximately 9%. The prices as shown in the catalog are "old pricing" and each section has a reminder that we will confirm actual cost before continuing with your order.

We apologize for the inconvenience, but do please consider how this reflects the US Importer's drive to keep prices as low as possible -- when the dollar is strong the US$ price of staintunes imported will decrease. Over the last 10 years, we have seen Staintune muffler and exhaust system prices go up or down about every year. And the price for the average product is comparable to 1995!

    Behind the scenes
We've had our hands full the past few weeks! A track day to have some fun, then a round of computer purchases so we are looking forward IT-wise. Add in some catalog maintenance, and we've been burning the midnight oil!

Our latest development is a large capacity fuel tank for Monsters. Initial goal is for it to bolt on to plastic tank'd 2V monsters. The Testa powered S4Rs and 07+ S4R have a different shaped fuel flange... R&D will be needed for fitment on those. Animated pic:

A full sized movie is available here: s2r_tank_anim.gif (10MB). You may want to right-click and "save target as" to load the animation directly to your computer.

Availability should be by the end of summer...

    EK **Black** Chain in stock!
Your "Dark" Ducati isn't dark without one of these! We're excited to announce stocking of the EK BLACK motorcycle drive chains! Not grey-black like other brands, BLACK. We have a picture of one on our silver and black 2003 Ducati Monster 620 and think it would be amazing on a Monster Dark or 749 Dark! This would probably be a great addition to any of the black painted models like the black S2R1000, black and tang S2R800, and black Multistrada MTS1000.

Our catalog page with the chains and sprockets. Also note how the 520 pitch JT sprocket is black and looks sharp with the black EK chain. The EK MVXZ X-Ring chains in black, red, yellow, and other colors are available in 520 or 525 pitch and feature lightening holes in the inner side plates.

While all motorcycle manufacturers have bikes that are blue, black, silver, and red, here are some favorites: Green chains could go on your Kawasaki ZX6R and ZX10R. Blue for the Yamaha FZ1, FZ6, and YZF models (YZF-R6, YZF-R1). Red suits the Honda CBR-RR family: CBR600RR and CBR1000RR.

Specification on EK 520 MVXZ X-Ring motorcycle drive chain:
Premium value Quadra-X ring chains, beefy 5.38 mm diameter pins and 2.0 mm inner and outer plates, an EK exclusive! Quadra X-rings offer 50 to 100% longer life than O rings, while reducing friction up to 50%. High-tech reinforced rollers help provide phenomenal tensile strength. Available in a varity of colors. Competition ready. Note that the innovative screw link eases installation! Features: 9000 lb tensile strength, Max 1000 cc street, 750 cc dirt. Specific: wear life=1500; basis=100.
